I have a strong feeling that I have too much time on my hands. :D
Do you remember when we could just disappear for the weekend with our mates for a bit of XI related fun?

Those were the days. But, soon, they will return.

Nice workshop, btw. Very tidy!

I'm not sure if this heavy old bus will handle as well as the XI.
It will, however make considerably more noise.

Incredibly tidy work! What sort of HP are you expecting from that huge lump?

I doubt many cars are as nimble as an Eleven, but that will have some mighty power/weight. I assume all the running gear is Jag, Did you refurb it yourself, of do you have tame specialists? I use the fine services of Ken Evans for my gear boxes. Excellent reputation, and a thoroughly decent bloke to boot.

The XK engine was considered very powerful - in 1949! The 4.2 engine in a 1980 Daimler Sovereign was advertised @ 205 HP, compare that with the average Civic Type R or Golf R today.
I've rebuilt this engine, nothing special, just bored, crank ground, 9:1 pistons, big valves, Webers and tubular exhaust manifold, bit of porting work and balanced. If I can get 230 -240 I will be very lucky.
The running gear is mostly XJ6 so incredibly heavy, the diff weighs a ton, forged drive shafts and wishbones etc. Plus the kit, especially the body are very chunky. I think a road tester would describe everything as being reassuringly substantial.
Weight all up will be around 1100 kilos so power to weight just a bit more than the XI.
Apart from the boring/ grinding of the engine I've done it myself, so no one to blame.
The Jaguar manual box was a stodgy old thing and quite rare so I've fitted a 5 speed unit from a Supra, it's a common mod and the bits are available, unlike some of the old Jaguar bits like the smooth polished cam covers and bell housings.
Brakes are refurbished standard XJ6 (inboard rears) so they should stop the thing, not sure about the 185x16 tyres keeping up though.
I'm assuming that the aforesaid tyres will contribute to some interesting cornering characteristics in the vintage style.
I've applied for an IVA test, so right now I'm just fitting/removing various bits to please VOSA Man. Of course I've no idea if I'll get a date so we'll just have to let things happen.
Back to the shed. :D

I think that 230bhp will probably be sufficient! I’m not au fait with Jag boxes, but I hear the Moss boxes can be tricky so the Toyota mod sounds like a very sensible upgrade. Personally, I like the punishment of grinding First! Not!

Maybe we should have a Show Us Your Workshop thread? If only to provide some amusement for the assembled readership?!!! :D
