Front wheel bearings

Anyone taken the plunge? Or should I be the first? My hubs have play and the castellated nut doesn't tighten any more than it is without stopping the hub from spinning....

That's an excellent article. I've cut'n'pasted it into a Word doc for safe keeping. One of my front bearings is showing signs of being on the turn so it's great to have a suggestion for improvements.
Do you think you'll go for it?

I think I will. The MOT tester picked up on my wobbly bearings, although he didn't fail me. I've tried nipping them up, as I would with normal car bearings, but they don't nip, as I'm sure you know, so I think that I should try to source the SKF ones and give them a go; like you say, it's such a comprehensive article even I should be able to manage it. I just need to take the plunge in plenty of time before LMC...

My XI passed its MOT yesterday and they only thing they picked up was a slight wobble on the NSF bearing. Having read that article I now understand why. MOTman reckoned it would be good for another 10-15k so I'll plan to change the bearings at the end of the Summer.

Possibly next weekend then...

Yeah, I can't see it being an issue for the car, only for the MOT. Mine have a very slight wobble on both sides, but I just can't believe that it's really an issue.

Ok, well simplybearings.co.uk are quoting £35 + VAT for each bearing! So £165 for the set then.

If someone else happens to find these cheaper, please let me know. Otherwise, I think I might put up with the wobble for a little longer!

Now that is what I call a comprehensive article!

Don't even go there......

I just don't understand it - how can a bearing on such a popular sports car be so problematic? I'm not really sure what to do now.....Perhaps I put taper bearings on for the MOT and then take them off again :?:

So far so good - very slight play but nothing worrying. If it gets too bad my first call would be to try to source equivalent size taper rollers.

I had similar trouble with my front hubs. That is until I found out that there is supposed to be a spacer between the bearings so you can't over tighten them. The spacer sits between the inner races so if you do over tighten it still shouldn't stop the wheel turning.
