Hopefully some will come along and give you a definitive answer, but until then you might be able to roughly work something out from Peter Egan's build article here (written in late 83?) : http://members.toast.net/joerger/crate.html . He says the fully assembled car was $10,500. (Complete kit was $7100 including midget parts for comparison).

So anyone know what the exchange rate was at the time?

Hello there.
I have the origonal 2 page Westfield sales literature. One page gives the tech spec and states price for 'complete vehicle' as being £5250 + VAT . Although it doesnt categorically say so, I think this means built up and ready to go.
I assume this because page 2 says that a stage 3 kit ,which is basically a completely built body with all panels fitted , costs £2268. It then goes on to cover 'additional items', such as wheels at £48 each, tyres, etc. The total additional costs plus stage 3 kit dont add up to £5250.
The kits were available before 1983, as my car was bought in 1982.

My (factory demonstrator) car was sold for 6000 pounds in 1988.

I am just finishing a new one. With the 125 HP engine, SP Components CR gearbox, TranX LSD, wire wheels and the 15" racing Dunlops, the total cost here in the US is around $60,000 with the labor. The extras add up. The engine alone is close to $8000 US, if assembled at home. More if you have it pro built. Taxes and registration, additional. Figure labor at around $10~15,000.

I imagine that the old Road and Track car ran around $10,500, plus any labor to assemble it.

My car was supposed to have been a factory built example. I imagine that it had to be around $12,000 delivered. No records, though.

Thank you all for your answers
The reason is that my nr. 52 is about to be taxed by the danish authorities and they have estimated that the car plus tax would have been 186.000 DKr in 1983 and that to me looked a bit high. At the time I would have paid 14.3 DKr for a £
We have very HIGH registration tax on cars in Denmark, + 180% of the price of the car. But that will not put me off I hope.
