I recovered some 50 copies of " Motor Sport " magazines of 1963-64-65-66 vintage from a skip
at the local tip. The September 1964 issue has a brief article with a grainy black and white photo
of a Lotus XI with " A proper hard-top ",this was raced by Team Garnett of South Yorkshire in 1963
gaining a class win in the Snetterton Three Hour race and 6th in class at Spa.It was badly damaged
in 1964 at Oulton,it was repaired with later successes at Oulton and Aintree.
The September 1965 issue has a classified advertisement that reads :-
LOTUS ELEVEN CLIMAX,1959,Series One.Stage Three
engine fitted low lift camshaht to make superb road car.
Fully trimmed and sprayed metallic blue.Car will top 111 mph
cruise all day at around the ton at 40 mpg of ordinary premium
petrol.Can be insured fully comprehensive for £36 or make
ideal club racer. £280. Just taxed Tel.: Bristol 57---
