Excellent news!

I can hit two birds with one stone and swing by Maniflow, for measuring up, and yours for a cuppa at some time.

I need more torques if I am going to stand a chance in this folly... :P

I think one of these will be fine:

Well, the show ponies take the car to 101 mph in the quarter mile, which is exactly what physics says that many horses are supposed to do. There is useful torque at 2500 RPM to putter around town in 2nd and 3rd gear, with tall, 15" 5.00 Dunlops. All this at more than 500 fewer peak RPM than you are using.

You can be content, but putting a degree wheel on that cam may find the torques you desire, and perhaps another 15 "show ponies". Nothing wrong with finding a few extra for free. You spent the money on a cam, and I assume some compression (maybe 10.5:1) and a good cylinder head. Why not get all of what you paid for? It's amazing what a couple of degrees of cam timing can do. Especially with the 1.5 rockers and the right geometry.

Chris at Maniflow loaned me an unfinished, standard 7" manifold (actually about 6.5" apparently) and it fits. Just! About 3mm clearance between the bonnet and the butterfly-nut of the jet inspection cover, about 4mm between the chassis rail and the body of bottom-mounted throttle linkage and about 5mm between the custom-fabricated expansion tank and the throttle linkage rod. But a fit is a fit. Thanks for the input Erictharg.

The loan item is a 1.4" port for a 40 DCOE and I need a 1.5"/45 with a vacuum take-off (I run the crankcase at a negative pressure, some of the oil stays inside then!), so I'm awaiting manufacture.......

Jon. You have mail.

I have a 6" on my own car, and there is plenty of room for a 6.5, (and I have used as much as 6.75") if you get the rise correct so you don't put the carb through the top of the bonnet. I use 1/4" rise. 1/8" might work fine on those longer pieces. Plenty of clearance.

Also, a 1275 needs a 45 DCOE, as the 40 is not big enough (certainly not big enough for a 1380), and is very hard to tune at the end of it's range. I'm using 45s on all my engines, with 5 or 6" maniflow intakes with a 1/4" rise. Again, parts of the combination are working against getting a nice wide power band, and adequate horses.

I'd skip the manifold fittings and the "negative pressure" in the crank case. The engine doesn't provide enough depression to run a vacuum advance with a Weber, let alone a crank case vacuum system. You need an Evacusump setup (using exhaust pulse to generate a vacuum) for that, and... Well... It doesn't work that well unless you really seal off the engine.

I run a hole in the fuel pump boss, the front cover air oil separator and a third hole in the valve cover, all to a breather tank with a drain back to the timing cover. No problems with blow by at all, and plenty of room for the air to move in the crank case. All the oil seems to stay inside, at least it has for over 20K miles.

Hi Malc,

The next one is at Hullavington on 15th March. Are you game? Splat can't come and play, but there will be a few friends there with their toys.

And me with No 42, of course. Dependent on weather, though. Cold and wet won't be much fun! But just damp = :D

I haven't booked yet.

There are a couple of solutions to the 100db issue. I am on the limit, but the marshalls were content to let me through.

What is your imposed max rev limit. I was going to call then to ask to be tested ar 3750, not 4000RPM.

I have a noise meter here (about 5 mins from the venue), so any solutions engineered (like an exhaust insert) can be pre-tested.

What do you think your noise is currently, Malc?

Hi Jon, Last time I tested the noise it was 113 DB since then I have upped the performance so I'm expecting higher results but it sounds quieter to me, I will try to get hold of my mates meter.
The 15th may not be possible for me because I have a pending funeral to attend, the date of which has not been fixed.I won't know till the end of the week.
