Quick Release Steering Wheel Hub

Post by Westfield 129 »

Mark Williams Enterprises (www.markwilliams.com), a supplier to US race car fabricators for decades, has an excellent US made compact quick release steering wheel hub that is superior to the quick release hub provided by Westfield and other manufacturers.

The hub is the same configuration as the popular hub designs, with a fine spline drive witha fat spline for slop free, uniform placement, and a ball locked hub with a concentric pull flange for release.

The hub is available in an undrilled configuration, and also available in MOMO pattern, as well as two different three bolt designs.

An adapter disc can be fabricated to move the wheel back, if necessary, or to accommodate larger bolt patterns.

I recommend the undrilled "Universal" hub, PN 10080. $102 USD

The spline sleeve has a .75" ID, and should slip over the steering shaft. Heating of the spline sleeve may be required, as the fit is precise. Then, the spline should be TIG welded in place.
"Spline Sleeve" PN 10029 $27 USD

The installation is far simpler than the Westfield supplied piece with its ill fitting sleeve. There should be no need to machine a sleeve or to machine the steerig shaft to fit, and no fabrication should be necessary with this hub.

So, if you would like to save, say, 120 quid or more... This is a viable option.
